Garden Design – The First Step
The first step for anyone wishing to redesign their garden is to put together a wish list.  This is a list that takes into account all the elements that you need and it reflects how you will use the garden.  If you are a young family with children then obviously your wish list is going to be different from a professional or a retired couple.  Everyone has different tastes and different shaped gardens not withstanding different architecture. No two gardens are ever the same and some have problems to solve like changes in levels, boundary reinforcement; alteration due to building works, office, or extended family. I can design a garden for you that will tick all your boxes and at the same time be imaginative and functional. Afterwards I can help you with the planting plan if you wish. The planting is always the final frame around the picture and adds colour, texture and density.

Initial Consultation
At this visit to your garden I listen to your needs and give you an idea of how many hours I think it will take to design your garden for you. If you decide to give me the ‘go ahead’ I will conduct a site survey to measure the area that needs to be considered, take a few photographs as an ‘aide de memoir,’ and calculate any levels that might need to be resolved. Once I have that information I can then go on to design an outline plan of your garden; this shows hard surfaces, shapes of beds and borders, looks at structures, retaining walls and hedgerows etc., This is done in the usual way on a drawing board and will be to scale.

2nd Consultation
This is a visit to show you what I have  designed and talk you through the elements.  I would leave you with a copy of the drawing giving you and your family a chance to discuss and modify the elements to better suit your needs. I will revise the drawing to fit your requirements ready to be costed by a landscaper.

 Planting Plans
If you have no idea what to plant where then I can help you to realise the look that you want to create. The creation process is the same as the one already described above and usually the planting plan follows the outline plan because we would have worked out where the beds are going to go and what shape they are going to be.  I can estimate the amount and cost of plants you need and supply them as well at a cost more competitive than if you were to approach your local garden centre.

 Construction
Once we have the definitive plan for your garden we can pass this on to a reputable landscaper and ask them to put together the costing for you.  I have a long and close association with the Company of Landscapers in Sherborne.

Please do get in touch to discuss your garden ideas.
